Unfortunately our
little battery can only go so long, especially in the cold. For the
second time on the trip our trailer battery is completely empty. We
really need to drive some distance to charge it and/or get a
campsite. So we pack up and head off to get some supplies.
As we get
ready for a big drive we notice that one of the tires looks a bit
worse for wear. Those kilometers are really starting to show on them.
We decide to change the worst one for the spare. Martijn gets his
hands dirty and fortunately it is not a big job to change the tire.
We drive around
Yucca Valley for a bit in search of a tire place, but it being a
Sunday on a long weekend we come up short. On the way out of town we
spot a mechanic at work at an RV repair shop. We pull over and he
kindly has a look at our tires. The other tires still have a few
kilometers on them, but do need to be replaced soon. He explains how
the back tires on a dual axle get more wear and even switches the
front and rear tires on the other side for us at no charge. We learn
something new and give him a cold beer as a thank you.
It's already late in the afternoon when
we start to navigate the traffic. We're still about 100 kilometers
away from Los Angeles, but it is certainly getting very busy on the
roads. Very tired we park up at Home Depot for the night. The
campgrounds were all full due to the long weekend, but hopefully
they'll have a spot for us tomorrow.
