We head south towards Cape Canaveral with a small detour to see Daytona Beach.
Today there is a launch of a SpaceX rocket that we would really like to see. Then we'll head to the campsite to go and visit the Kennedy Space Center tomorrow.
At 9:45 we park up at a rest stop on the Interstate 95 to set up the cameras and start the count-down. at 9:51 we all look to the sky in anticipation... nothing. Is it happening? Did we miss it? Then Janine spots it. We were expecting a big smoke plume but by the time it gets in our view that is not following the rocket anymore. Then as the rocket gains altitude the contrail starts and it is easier to track. A bit higher still and the rocket disappears from view. Truly spectacular.
We go to Walmart to do some shopping and research and have lunch. The weather is glorious so we make a quick change of plans. We're going to hit up a water park in Orlando instead.
We find an amazing glamping campground close to the theme parks for a very reasonable price and manage a quick dip in the pool before dinner time. Yes, that is a pool in our backyard.
After dinner we go to the clubhouse to decide which park to do tomorrow. The vote is unanimous for Universal Volcano Bay. There is a whole group of lovely elderly ladies playing Mahjong and the kids get very interested in the game so they are very quickly adopted by the group.
