After lunch we make our way down to our
next pet sitting address in San Antonio. On the way we stop off for
some more supplies. We've just figure out that our debit card will
actually work here in the USA in most shops, but we haven't quite
worked out how to tell in advance whether it will.
As we try the pay, the machine accepts
the card, but refuses to pay. We do not have cash on us so we ask the
person behind the till if she can put our stuff aside and so we can
go to a cash machine. As she gives us direction to the nearest bank,
a random stranger butts in and pays for our shopping. We try to stop
him but he's already completed the transaction. We're stunned and
feel really weird. It's not like we don't have the money, just not on
us. We tell him we're going to get some cash and pay him back, but
he's having none of it. So, there's nothing for us to do but thank
him gracefully and wish him a very Merry Christmas.
As we get to the house Martijn is tested for his reversing skills... in the dark... The house is at the end of a 200m cul-de-sac with no space to turn the car and trailer around. With excellent guidance from Janine, Niels and Lucy we make it without any bumps or scratches.
